Well, Where In The World Do River Cruises Go? Aren't They All Only in Europe?....

Well, the short answer is no, there are river cruises in many parts of the world, beyond just Europe.  Some of the more fascinating facts about river cruises outside of Europe is their small scale. While many European River Cruises carry typically between 100-190 passengers, you will find below that well under 100 passengers is most common. Also to note, the crew to guest ratios for these are simply outstanding, further enhancing your river cruise experience. Let’s discover more below…


Africa

Amawaterways sails on the Chobe River with the Zambezi Queen that was renovated in 2019, carrying just 28 passengers with 22 crew.



Egypt

Amawaterways sails on the Nile with the AmaLilia debuting in 2024 and the AmaDahlia, which began sailing in 2021.  Each with 36 staterooms and a crew of 62.  


Avalon sails on the Nile with their Ms Farah ship built in 2011 with 58 cabins and a crew of 85.


Viking sails the Nile River with 6 ships, all built within the last few years, some sail starting in 2025, often carrying approximately 82 guests with a crew of 48+/-.


Uniworld sails the Nile River with 2 ships, the Tosca began in 2009 with 82 guests and 50 crew members, and also with the SS Sphinx is 2021 with 84 guests and 60 crew.



India

Uniworld sails the Ganges River aboard the Ganges Voyager II which began sailing in 2016 carrying 56 guests with 36 crew members.



Vietnam & Cambodia

Amawaterways sails the Mekong River with their AmaDara ship, which began sailing in 2015 with 62 staterooms and 52 crew members


Avalon sails the Mekong River with their Avalon Saigon ship built in 2018 with just 18 staterooms and a crew of 24


Viking sails the Mekong River with their Viking Tonle ship accepting passengers starting in 2025, and also with the Viking Saigon ship built in 2022 carrying just 80 guests 


Uniworld sails the Mekong River with their Mekong Jewel starting in 2020 with 68 guests and 51 crew members



South America

Amawaterways begins sailing the Magdalena River with their new ship, AmaMagdalena in late 2024 with just 30 cabins and 30 crew members.  The AmaMelodia begins sailing in 2025.


Avalon sails on the Amazon river with their Delfin III ship built in 2015 with just 22 cabins and a crew of 24


Uniworld sails the Amazon with their Aria Amazon ship which began sailing in 2011, and was renovated in 2019.  Just 32 guests are welcome aboard each sailing with a crew of 27.


Avalon also sails the Treasures of the Galapagos, while not a river cruise ship, this is a very small ship, Catamaran, with just 9 cabins, a crew of 10, yet the boat is still 102 ft long.


North America

Viking sails the Mississippi River with their Viking Mississippi ship built in 2022 carrying just 386 passengers with a crew of 147
